Boomtown, my favourite festival, an interactive time of mayhem and unexpected delights interspersed with music and dancing. Unexpected discoveries, weird costumes, lovely people. Drugs, drink, dangerous living and yet filled with joy and love and calm. For two years no Boomtown. No dancing under the stars, no trying to sleep while a huge festival city breathes around Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-48910473755364734972022-09-04T16:25:00.006+01:002022-09-07T16:40:20.877+01:00It's been a whileNo blog posts for 2 years. COVID hit me hard, a lack of festivals which had always been my happy place, my reset button for real life when I needed them the most was really difficult to cope with. I did manage a small bit of camping, but of course I was in the same lethargic funk that the rest of the world was in, caught up in lockdowns that should have made us productive (and given us time Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-36391204133300779772019-09-03T10:00:00.000+01:002019-09-03T10:00:05.733+01:00Night night, sleep tight - Camping sleep mats review
For a long time I have searched for the perfect comfy night's sleep when camping. As I'm in my 50s the simple thin foam mat favoured by my teen is just not enough for my older bones. So while a yoga mat may do for the young, for the more discerning sleeper something comfier is required. I have tried camp beds like these
but found them to actually feel quite hard and uncomfortable. Then I Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-38628282498752698912019-09-02T18:14:00.004+01:002019-09-02T18:14:54.563+01:00Cornbury Festival 2019 - a review
Fancy a new festival? Looking for a festival for grown ups that is still child friendly yet not full of teenagers? I think that the Cornbury festival might be just what you need. This year, once again the weather was amazing. Glorious sunshine always helps at a festival. (though mud and rain can make for some fun memories) This year DD and I pitched up in our usual spot on the corner near theTattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-29097826904627829962019-06-29T18:08:00.000+01:002019-06-29T18:08:35.212+01:00Eco Packing for a festivalEvery blogger that does festivals has blogged about what to take. I've done it myself because it's a thing that newbies, festival virgins, the uninitiated, always ask. But the more I think about the planet, the irony of banning plastic straws but taking wet wipes in your festival kit, the more I thought I needed to 'eco up' my game.
Now festival going is never going to be all holy. You'll Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-48462266428728509162019-06-21T10:34:00.000+01:002019-06-21T10:34:02.750+01:00Festival Weather - hoping for the best but planning for the worstAnyone that goes to a festival in the UK knows to take wellies. Wellingtons have become a staple item in the wardrobe of the festival fan because whether it rains or not there will be damp bits. Often these damp bits will be near the showers, or the water points, or the toilets...we shall not dwell here.
Wellies have come a long way from the days where green was fancy and black was normal. Now Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-66265277839953864022019-06-03T11:03:00.000+01:002019-06-03T11:03:07.670+01:00Life and death in a tentLife and death? Bit dramatic, we are only going camping.
Every year there are one or two stories in the news about people that die, actually die, in their tents often while asleep. But what is killing them I hear you ask? The invisible killer is carbon monoxide.
If you cook in your tent, if you use a heater in your tent, if you use a barbecue near to your tent, you are at risk. Carbon Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-82470383588288245942019-06-02T16:57:00.000+01:002019-06-02T16:57:13.967+01:00Camping, the cheap hobby with the option to spend!I recently wrote about my number one camping essential over on The Mediocre Dad, and that made me think. If I had some spare money and wanted to treat myself, what would I add to my camping arsenal? Which extra bits and pieces would I buy? So I had a little hunt about the internet, and asked a few companies what they thought I really 'needed' to add to my kit. Here are some of the things I found,Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-3295181917943594262019-05-12T17:28:00.000+01:002019-05-12T17:28:08.948+01:00Camp Bestival Fancy Dress IdeasIt's about time I got my festival fancy dress underway. Because I attend a few festivals each year I try to ensure I wear a costume that will be suitable for a few of them (I'm not made of money!) but I also like to get a new costume each year, and I like to lure my daughter into dressing up too.
Getting kids to dress up is easier when they are small. Summer is the best time of year. Summer is full of sunshine, beer, relaxing, big skies, music on the breeze and the gentle tickle of drying grass underfoot.
Of course being Britain it's also muddy, grey, dreary, windy, cold, full of umbrellas and it smells of damp tent.
But one thing it is always full of is festivals. Some years it can be hard to choose which ones to go to!

Regular readers will know that I'm a regular at Camp Bestival, the fun, family, festival held in Dorset each year.
Last year the fun was slightly dampened by such dreadful storms on the last day that the festival had to be closed early. But better safe than sorry!

My highlight of the trip though was not the northern lights (we went in September - right at the start of the season and we were too lazy to go out late at night to search for them) and it was not the Blue Lagoon (neither of us are spa fans, and the price and the man made aspect of the place put us off - I'll never make it as an Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0Jökulsárlón, Iceland64.0784458 -16.23055369999997363.967377299999995 -16.553277199999972 64.1895143 -15.907830199999973tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-86166562929875256242019-02-09T11:03:00.000+00:002019-04-06T19:08:19.094+01:00Cornbury Festival 2019Last year I discovered a new festival and it was great. I don't know why I have only just found out about Cornbury as this will be its 16th Year! I love a grown up feel to a festival, neither a kids's festival (though I do love those for being silly, it's also nice to sip a glass of chardonnay in a deckchair while listening to something 'mummy likes' once in a while), nor a teen festival (I'm allTattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0Great Tew, Chipping Norton OX7, UK51.9547619 -1.420437900000024551.876477900000005 -1.5817994000000244 52.0330459 -1.2590764000000245tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-15136914926323781082019-02-08T09:33:00.000+00:002019-04-06T19:08:13.055+01:00Camp Bestival 2019 - What's On?#AdGifted What's that about? I had decided to not bother with the Northern lights or the Blue Lagoon as neither really attracted me. I did want to see all the usual touristy things near Reykjavik (where we would be based) though, and I lazily didn't want to hire a car.

What an incredible festival.
Before going to Boomtown, but after I had, on a whim, purchased tickets, people were keen to tell me what to expect. To be fair to them, some of these people seemed to assume that a 52 year old woman would be shocked by drug taking and horrified by a festival loo. This year for an added bit of excitement DD has become vegan so the extra challenge to feed her has been fun. No longer can I just grab a burger or a pie and mash...so what have I been eating and how have the festivals fared?

Last weekend I went to Camp Bestival. Unusually for me I didn't take a tent! I fulfilled a bit of a bucket list dream and hired a gorgeous and retro VW campervan called Molly. She is pink! DD and I had an exhilarating drive, (exhilarating is the polite way of saying terrifying) from Sussex to Dorset. Old campers have no power steering (obviously) and a top speed of about 60mph (downhill with a Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-39568983204155018982018-08-03T11:30:00.001+01:002019-04-06T19:08:15.282+01:00Camp Bestival 2018 review of (probably) the best family festival on EarthHello! I am back from one of the best family festivals on earth, Camp Bestival, and I'm not only saying that because they gifted me a ticket!
This year the festival was sadly cut short by horrendous storms and wind, but no one wants doom and gloom so here are the fun bits!
First off, we hired a camper van this year! Helped of course by the most amazing summer weather that many of you will ever have experienced. After several weeks of blazing sun and high temperatures a part of me was afraid the weather would break just as the festival season kicked off, but no! The weather Gods smiled upon us and Cornbury went ahead with scorched grass and blue blue skies.

People have asked me how I cope with so many festivals in such a short space of time each summer. Is it amazing advanced planning? Spending loads of money or a wild and carefree attitude to life?
I'd say it's a mix of all of those. Most summers I do four or more festivals and as summer is fairly limited in the UK, in practice this means I usually have little or no time between the festivals. Tattooed Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05756762569823259874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5965612636524346588.post-1321603734136223852018-05-21T12:51:00.002+01:002019-04-06T19:27:54.952+01:00Eating Vegan at Camp BestivalNot to be confused with eating an actual vegan...
My lovely teen has recently embraced the vegan lifestyle and so while I am still looking forward to pulled pork, brisket baps and a bacon buttie or three at Camp Bestival, the teen will be in search of less murderous fayre.
And no creamy mash or cheesy chips of course. So what can she expect and more importantly will she have enough choice?
